What Causes Red Wrinkly Skin Of Penis?

Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question: Hi, I am 28 and have had plenty of sexual intercourse. I was tested for all STD's a few years back, and nothing came up. Since then, I have had sex a few times always with a condom. My penis head has gotten more wrinkly and red over the past several years. About a year ago I noticed a red raised meatus. I also have like whiteish gray spots on the underside of my penis head. I have no pain or irritation. I pee normal and can ejaculate. I am just a bit self conscious of how my penis looks. When erect you can really barely notice the red meatus. You can of course see the reddish, wrinkled penis head moreso in different lighting. The penis also kind of smelled under the skin. Because of this I saw online that maybe I had a yeast infection. The past few weeks I have been rubbing Lotrimin Ultra all over the penis head. I have no changes except the smell is gone. Please see images. Is there anything you recommend that will get rid of the raised meatus and also remove the whitish gray spots? These spots are not raised. They are just color on the back of the penis head.

Brief Answer:
Everything is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for red meatus and wrinkled penis head with smell under the skin.

After going through your complete query with diligence and analyzing all the pictures let me reassure you first that your penile head is completely normal and there is no abnormality in the same.

To elaborate it medically- our penile skin is one of the thinnest skin in the body. It is such a thin skin that even the small blood vessels are directly visible under it.

It is a general phenomenon of wear and tear that this skin might look bit wrinkled at one time and more so normal at the other time due to erectile and retractile skin of penis. Whenever it is retracted more then this will appear as wrinkled skin and during erect state it will appear as completely normal skin due to its elasticity.

The whitish gray skin is known as post inflammatory hyper and hypo pigmentation. It is due to the higher and lower activity of the color producing cell of the skin. The paces where there is over activity, the area appears bit darker and the places where there is less activity then appear as whitish.

The red meatus is just because of the visible internal mucosa of urethra. When we try to see internally everyone of us would have red appearance of meatus.

The smell is related to hygiene features. Not only fungus but bacteria can also cause the smelly skin as the genital area is always covered. So maintain a good hygiene to take care of prevention of smell. For the same follow the suggestions below:

- take two times bath.

- Change undergarments two times.

- Wear lose cotton clothes.

- Do not sit for long hours.

- Avoid heat and humidity.

There is no need to apply any medications for any of your concerns as are very common problem which we see in our day to day practice.

Do not try to look at your genital are too often as can cause more unnecessary concerns.

Just maintain good hygiene, use protection in every sexual act and stay healthy.

I hope these information will relax you. I will be glad to answer any further queries.

With good health wishes"
