What Causes Reddish Spots All Over Body?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I have been having dime sized red spots showing up all over my body. It feels at times I am being bit, but never see anything. I thought maybe mites as I also been having an allergic reaction. Benadryl normally knocks it down. The spots last a bout 3 days being a darker pink to red color and then diminish in color and size and eventually become a faded small spot then disappear after about two weeks. I can sometimes go a day or two without no new ones, then all a sudden 5-10 more. usually in the same area, which moves from my arms mainly to my back and side with always 30-40 in different stages of healing or disappearing. I don't see no bite holes. It is driving me crazy.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of P corporis; Need more information and few more cleart Images

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through the query and I have noted down the symptoms.
I have noted that the lesions are distributed on your arms, shoulders and torso. I have also noted that you have already been treated with permethrin with no improvement.

I have seen the Image though the Image is not very clear. I suggest you to upload a few more good clarity Images covering different areas of involvement of skin.

Based on the history I will like to rule out a possibility of 'Pediculosis corporis' or body lice infestation. The organism usually resides in the seams of clothing. At night the lice moves out to feed on to the skin and therefore just applying permethrin 5% is not enough unless all your clothing, bedding, and towels are laundered using hot water (at least 54 °C) and machine dried using the hot cycle.

-Is the itching more at night?
-Are the face, feet and hands involved?

Regards

Brief Answer:
I strogly feel this is a body lice infestation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I apologize for some delay in my reply.
I strongly feel this is a body lice infestation.
In addition to the sheets I suggest you to wash all your clothings and towels as well using hot water (at least 54 °C).
You may reapply 5% permethrin once more to the whole body, below neck with special attention to flexures like axilla, groin. Keep it over night for 8 hours and bath next day.
An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once or twice daily is a better option than benadryl.
You may apply hydrocortisone cream, twice daily starting from the following days.
Take daily bath, regularly.
