Question : Since I had cataract surgery 6 weeks ago my eye has been very bloodshot and I have some discomfort. What could be the reason?

The redness and discomfort in the eye following cataract surgery can be because of subconjunctival hemorrhage. This will resolve over time slowly and no need to be worried about this as told by your doctor. No treatment other than routine eye drops is required.

If you are having redness, discomfort and blurred vision then it indicates inflammation of the eye and requires treatment by the use of steroid drugs.
