Posted on Wed, 28 May 2014
Question: Just finished Augmentin. For last week there has been redness, itchyness, burning to touch and on its own, and now bleeding. Progressively getting worse. Around whole butt crack from top to bottom. Is silvadene a solution or what do you recommend? Thanks

Brief Answer:
may be intertrigo

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Silvadene is mainly used in treating burns.

Spaces with increased moisture or friction such as between the gluteal folds, between the groin, axilla or under the breasts are subject to intertrigo

This is inflammation of the skin folds made worse by friction, heat, moisture.

Treatment:(1) you may want to consider sitz baths , 2 to 3 times a day for 10 to 2o minutes. This means sitting in warm (not hot) water, add salt.
This would help reduce the inflammation.
The bleeding is occurring because the skin is so inflamed.

(2)The folds of the skin need to be kept separated for a while with cotton or linen material. This would reduce the friction

(3)Absorbent powders such as zeasorb would help to absorb moisture

(4)the use of an anti fungal (most common infection in moist areas) and an mild steroid (steroid for a few days to reduce inflammation) would also be helpful
Examples of anti fungal creams are lamisil, canesten, ketoconazole
These can be combined with a barrier cream to further reduce friction, any zinc based cream

It can take 1 to 2 weeks for complete resolution.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
