What Causes Redness And Itching On Torso After A Shingles Vaccine?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Feb 2017
Question: My husband and I got the shingles vaccine in 2008 at our doctor's office. He is 85, and now has itching on his body, which has turned into red welps that look like shingles. Putting some 1% hydrocortisone on the spots has helped overnight. Is this possible to get if one has had the vaccine?

Brief Answer:
It is extremely rare, only a 1% chance of this happening

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. It is extremely rare to get shingles after receiving the vaccine, almost 99 % of the vaccinated population cannot or does not get shingles after being vaccinated.

I would like you to first visit your doctor and confirm/rule out the shingles and only then suspect it. I also hope I have provided you with the information you were looking for. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
