What Causes Redness In The Right Eye?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: For about 3 weeks now my right eye has looked bloodshot. Yesterday it started hurting and feels like (and sort of looks like) there's a lump under my eyelid. It is quite painful. Kinda itchy. It also hurts down the side of my nose and I have a headache.

Brief Answer:
Consult expert doctor for specific management.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query. I have gone through it & understood your concern.
Redness of eye indicates widening of blood vessels on eye surface . This can be due to allergy, conjunctivitis, dry eye, abrasion of eye due to foreign body or more serious causes like glaucoma or uveitis.
The possibilities in your case could be-
- From any of the cause red eye is.. when stands for a longer time.. inflammation & infection sets in , gets localized to form lump in form of sty or chalazion . The swelling itself can cause head ache / pain by side of nose.
- The associated allergic common cold had turned in sinusitis ( inflammation of sinus) leading to the swelling under eye, head ache & nose too
- possibility of eye involvement like glaucoma need to be excluded / treated if +ve.
* In this scenario I would suggest consultation of your family physician for primary evaluation & the referral to EYE or ENT specialist as per need & followed by specific treatment.Eye being an important organ for healthy & happy life I would suggest earliest care to exclude/prevent any major event
I hope the answer was both informative & useful to you. any follow up query is welcome.
thanks.
