What Causes Redness Of Left Eye?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Jul 2015
Question: I had a coughing spell this afternoon and noticed that the white in my left eye was turning red. Now, a couple of hours later all of the white in that eye is a dark red. It does not hurt but feels a bit different. Will this simply go away after a few days? Or should I be concerned?
BTW: I take daily Warfarin, aspirin, and Plavix for a heart condition. Have done so for 20 years.

Brief Answer:
It can be subconjunctival hemorrhage and no need to be concerned.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
This can be because of simple sub conjunctival hemorrhage.
This occurs because of bleeding from the conjunctival vessels.
Since you are taking antiplatelet drugs like aspirin, warfarin... these may be the cause for bleeding along with coughing.

However no need to worry about this condition as this will not cause any problem and this will resolve over 1-3 weeks slowly as the blood gets absorbed.
No treatment is required for this problem.

If possible do send me a photo of the affected eye so that I can confirm the diagnosis.

Hope this information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
