Question: My 7 year old son over several months will start off day fine. By afternoon his cheeks are rosy and hot.
His temperature in the morning is normally fine but will increase as day goes. Today at 3pm its 100.4. His PCP says cbc is normal. XXXXXXX doesnt say anything hurts and acts fine other than tired and cranky in afternoons. Im really worried about him. Where do I go next? specialist? if so what one? what could this be? concerned and worried mom. Thanks for your time. `

Brief Answer:
Could be viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to HCM. Can understand your concerns.

Symptom of fever only without other symptoms like cough, loose stools, pain abdomen suggests that child has probably got viral infection.

Viral infection usually gets settled in 72 hours. Reports like cbc are normal in viral fever.

If fever persists, or child develop other symptoms then we have to do some blood tests like crp levels, typhidot Igm, malarial antigen test.

A re-examination by pediatrician should also be done if fever persists or child develops other symptoms. Continue paracetamol syrup for fever.

I hope this will help you.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Decreased immunity or autoimmune disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome once again.

If these symptoms are for months then viral infection is ruled out. Then we have to look for decreased immunity. Diseases which can lead to persistent fever like autoimmune diseases.

Temperature charting should be done so that we can know that what is the exact temperature daily. Investigations like IgG and IgA levels should be done.

An examination by pediatrician should be done as early as possible.

Take care.
