Question : I recently had my kneecap removed and still have staples. Two days ago I noticed that the incision is red, very swollen and oozing. Today it's more painful and swollen that it's shiny, like plastic! What could this be? By the way, this was my 16th surgery on this knee!

                                    Brief Answer:
Due to inflammation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The red and swollen skin with fluid oozing out is suggestive of an inflammation at the site. This can be due to an infection or a reactive swelling. It is best to consult your orthopedician and get it examined. He will prescribe you proper antibiotics and anti inflammatory drugs to take care of this.
I hope this answers your query.
