Question : hi, I have had tendonitis in my shoulder for about 2 months, it has gotten better. I am able reach my arm behind my head, scratch my back and brush my hair pain free. When I reach my arm above my head there is a lot of pain . Like I said i have been dealing with this for about 8 weeks any idea when i might be pain free. Also if it was a torn rotator cuff would i be able to do those things.
Brief Answer:
You may be having partial cuff tear
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. You can do these activity with pain if tear is incomplete. If you get an MRI than this can be confirmed. If tear is complete than pain disappeared but than movements become absent. It is good to treat partial tear.
I would recommend you to show it to shoulder surgeon. If there is cuff tear or impingement than you can do better with small shoulder surgery.
You need to show it to shoulder specialist and not a normal orthopaedic surgeon.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Brief Answer:
Partial tear can heal sometimes
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
There is lot of debate in this. Some partial tear can heal though most progress to become complete over the period of time.So You can follow this tear with frequent sonographic investigation.
If you feel that there is difficulty in movements or pain than I would recommend you to get it operated.
