Question: Hello doctor. I am male, age 44 from XXXXXXX Non smoker, very rarely drink beer (once in 6 months). Having mild pain (occasional) on the right side of abdomen. Some times near the naval and some times on the right side corner rib (during sleep and during a walk after sitting for some time). Normal bowel movement. Went to a doctor. He advised me a abdomen USG. Got a report of Biliary sludge with all the other medical tests (Blood, X ray, stool) normal. Occasional Leukocytes in stool. Brief answer....since you are having pain for past 6 months,it is better to get surgery done
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Gall bladder sludge is formed when gall bladder doesn't empty completely and bile remains in it to for long time resulting in mixture of mucus, cholesterol and calcium salts. This mixture is called biliary sludge.
Sometimes sludge gets cleared of its own but other times it can cause inflammation of gall bladder ( cholecystitis ) or result in gall stones which can obstruct bile duct or even erosion of gall bladder wall.
Since you are having pain for past 6 months,it appears that it may not resolve of its own.
In my opinion, you should get the surgical removal of gall bladder done, however it would be better to consult a surgeon and seek his opinion.
There is no point waiting for some emergency to occur.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Hello,
You can take the medicine as advised by your doctor and hopefully your pain subsides.
Wait and watch over next few days.
In case pain doesn't subside, consult a surgeon and seek his opinion.
If we see your case in longer perspective, fact of matter is that most likely you would need the surgery at some point of time, however there is no urgency immediately.
Best of luck
Thanks
