What Causes Right Sided Body Pain Under The Rib Cage While Coughing?

Question : I have a very good case of flu. It has been years since I have had the flu. My coughing at times is so intense that I now have a very very deep pain on the right hand side of my body just under my rib cage - not my stomach. Mostly when I cough - can be quite unbearable. Is it just strain from so much coughing?

Thanks for writing your query.

Your pain seems to be due to excessive coughing.
After reading your post, I would like to advise that you should get yourself clinically examined and investigated.

Following investigations may be helpful :-
1. Auscultation of chest.
2. Complete Blood Count ( CBC ).
3. Chest X - Ray PA view.
4. Throat swab culture.
5. Sputum examination.

You can take an antihistamine like Fexofenadine 120 mg once a day for relief from your cough.
A bronchodilator may be added if chest auscultation indicates of broncho constriction.
Warm saline gargles may be helpful.
Further medical management can be planned after knowing the reports of the above mentioned Investigations.
