What Causes Right Sided Chest Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 May 2016
Question: I've had a severe pain in my upper right chest area. Thought it was a broken rib from coughing. I've had a decent cough and lots of wheezing. Chest X-ray shows no broken rib but do to says there is streaking on the X-ray. He's going to treat with antibiotic in case it's pneumonia but I don't have other pneumonia symptoms. What else could it be?

Brief Answer:
Muscular or musculoskeletal could be other possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and understand the concern.

Right side sever chest pain could be due to muscular pain or pain could be musculo-skeletal origin.

So,I will also keep this possibility apart from some broken rib or pneumonia.

However,it is very unlikely that severe coughing may broke your rib. Also,I will want to see that X-ray film to rule out chances of broken rib as well as pneumonia.

So,if possible then please share it to me with other blood works if you have done.Without clinical examination with blood and X-ray reports,it is very difficult to arrive at a certain conclusion.

Meanwhile,I will also in favor to use over the counter pain reliever medications (ibuprofen 400 mg or naproxen 500 mg) and anti-allergic medications for symptomatic relief.

Avoid heavy weight lifting and do hot fomentation frequently in a day to the right side chest which will help to relieve from pain.

Brief Answer:
Will wait for your x-ray film.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the reply.

Streaking on the X-ray film could minor trauma to chest or some artifacts or could be something else but I really that severe coughing can cause it.

However, I will need to see and confirm whether there is any streaking or not. So,I will wait for your x-ray film.
