What Causes Right-sided Pain In Lower Pelvis Radiating Towards Mid-thigh?

Posted on Mon, 27 Jul 2015
Question: I am having pain in my lower right side near my pelvic bone. The pain starts there and goes down to mid thigh. It feels like a muscle pain but instead of getting better in time, it is getting worse. I can't think of anything I did to hurt myself.

When I am relaxing and get up I can hardly walk the pain is so bad. As I move about, the pain subsists and I can walk comfortably again.

Brief Answer:
Information on when to be seen for this:

Detailed Answer:
What you are describing sounds like a strain, but could be from other things as well.

If you are having any nausea, fever (even low grade), or feeling overall unwell, you should be seen to make sure the problem is not from the appendix.

If it is a musculoskeletal injury with nerve involvement, you should be seen promptly if you are experiencing any numbness in your leg.

If neither of the above are the case, and if the pain continues to persist or if it worsens, then you should be seen for evaluation. Without an exam, and possibly an Xray to see what the integrity of the hip bone is right now, it is hard to say exactly what is going on.

Naprelan is an appropriate medication for inflammation. If it is not helping, and if the problem is muscular (strain) in nature, then a short course of muscle relaxant might help.

Depending on what the injury is, physical therapy might be helpful if this persists.

If you are open to alternative medicine, some people benefit from acupuncture for acute musculoskeletal injuries and pain. I would advise that if you would like to try this that you seek out one who was formally trained in China, not U.S. Benefit should be apparent within 3 treatments or do not continue with it.

However, given that we don't know entirely what is going on, my recommendation is that you be seen by a physician for a diagnosis, and can then go from there.

It occurred to me that I started to take GNC Probiotic about 2 1/2 weeks ago and the pain was very mild. I started taking 5mg Crestor Friday and now the pain is much worse. Could this be the cause?

Brief Answer:
Yes, this could be the cause.

Detailed Answer:
About the probiotic - if it affects you adversely the symptoms would likely be mild lower abdominal cramping and possibly diarrhea. But the pain type in the abdomen would be a crampy pain and it would not change much with getting up to walk.

The Crestor however is a different story. It can definitely cause muscle pain and joint pain. And I would advise that you call the doctor who prescribed it and tell him or her what is going on.

However, you say that it made an existing pain worse, not caused it so I am wondering what process was going on before?
