What Causes Right-sided Pulsating Pain In The Chest?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 May 2017
Question: For the past three weeks I have been having this pulse type pain between my sternum and right breast. I do not get short of breath, no nausea, and not dizzy. This morning I felt it stronger and I went to ER. ER doctor gave me aspirin, chest x-ray, ct scan with contrast, ekg, and troponin blood draw. All had negative findings. I have a history of asthma, c-6 cervical displacement (not repaired), and high tryglycerides. 41 years old. Went for a bike ride and didnt feel out of breath after either. Could I have blocked heart artery? Following up with a cardiologist next week.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of having a cardiac issues is less

Detailed Answer:
Hi There

After going through the medical details and history provided by you I can understand your concern for your health. Am Dr Bhanu partap and I am a cardiology practitioner. Here I will try to explain things in a simple way.

1. As you are describing the pain in a localised area so it doesn't seems to be cardiac as pain arising due to heart problem especially blocked arteries is always generalised with a feeling of whole chest heaviness and tightness.

2. The tests which you underwent in the ER also came out to be negative which again makes any cardiac issue unlikely.

3. Your Cervical displacement could also lead to this type of pain you are experiencing due to cervical compression. So its advisable that you should personally consult a orthopaedic surgeon and discuss the treatment options.

4. However keeping the risk factors in mind in your case like high triglycerides and your other habits like if you smoke or diabetes or hypertension to be completely sure I would like to suggest you to go for TMT and Echocardiography tests also.

I hope this information will be helpful. If you have any more doubts feel free to ask me.

Kind Regards
Dr Bhanu partap
