What Causes Rise In Heart Rate After Stopping Steriods?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Mar 2015
Question: Messed up my chest pec major/minor strain as well as costeocondrtis. Was given steriods and an topical NDAID finished all of the steriods a week ago. Have been experiencing increased HR on a pulse/blood pressure monitor of 150bpm and the irregular HR indicator shows up. I have been sick since finishing the steroids with a head cold with sinus pressure. I've had an ecg, bloodwork, checked for clots, and chest xray. All came back fine. Is my HR something that I should seek looking into further? like something that just effects me when I'm up moving around I've also noticed that I've felt more tired and that when these fast hr attacks happen I get the sweats. Also when I was in class about a month ago in exercise physiology when I ran a test she said I was having afib and asked if I had been drinking caffeine

Brief Answer:
Not due to steroids.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The rise in the heart rate after stopping steroids is not related to steroids. It can be due to stress, anxiety, atrial fibrillation, thyroid hormone level disturbances, taking too much caffeine, etc.
It is best to consult a cardiologist for a detailed evaluation to find the cause.
I hope this answers your query.
