Question : Hi,
I have rough, dry patches on my elbows. It was much worse weeks ago but not completely gone. I am not allergic to anything that I am aware of---however, I have a dog in my home and a new couch with fire retardant material that seems to make it worse.
I've limited time with the dog and vacuum nearly every day.
Changed diet to high protein, low carb, limited seafood, but I do drink about 4 cups of coffee every day. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
psoriasiform dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com. I have read your query. I understand your concern. I have seen the attached photographs also.
From the images and details given, it seems to be psoriasiform dermatitis to me. It is actually eczematous condition with pattern resembling that of Psoriasis. The condition is not affected by diet.
In such cases, I prefer to advise topical steroid like mometasone over the rash. In addition, oral antihistaminics like levocetrizine is advised for symptomatic relief of itch. You should apply lots of moisturiser over body so as to avoid dryness as dryness exacerbates the pre existing eczema.
I Will advise you to visit your doctor in person so that he can do proper clinical examination and give you prescription.
You can share my opinion with him. I hope it helps. Take care.

Thank you for your response. Other than dryness, any idea what is causing it? I've never had it before but I seem to have picked it up while living in new York. Originally from Florida. Will sun help?

Oh and it does not itch

Brief Answer:
environmental change in predisposed individual

Detailed Answer:
Environmental changes may precipitate the condition in predisposed individuals. No, as such sun exposure has no role in treatment or causation.
I hope it helps. Stay healthy.
