Question : I'm not sure why, but my nose gets abnormally runny when I play video games for a certain length of time. It didn't always used to do that, and it's very annoying to manage. Compared to others, who have no idea what I'm referring to, I play video games much less than they do. Is the tv screen affecting me in some way? Watching tv doesn't have the same effect, and playing handheld consoles don't affect me either.

Brief Answer:
Levels of stress and chemical neurotransmitters may be associated.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have very carefully considered your case and feel that I have an explanation. I feel that playing video games is associated with foucssing and a certain level of stress. This stress makes us sweat and increases the release of a chemical neurotransmitter called Acetyl choline which is also associated with the release of nasal and salivary secretions. In your case the innervation may be such that this release of Acetyl choline also stimulates the nasal discharge to occur.

I do not suppose that the TV screen is affecting you in any way.

Watching TV is an act of relaxation and would not involve the stress associated. That is the reason of the scenario being different while watching TV.

Let me know if I could help further.
