What Causes Scaly And Dry Skin On The Bottom Of Feet?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Aug 2015
Question: Hi For years now the bottom of my feet get scaly and dry and hard unless I daily use a moisturizer created to soften the hardness of the feet such as Peppermint Intenstive Foot Rescue (which contains peppermint oil and grape acids).

However how do I know whether it is simply dry foot heel and sole or actually a fungal infection of the bottom of my foot. I have taken pictures which if I could send probably would help you to see what I mean but the bottom of my feet which when clear is pink starts getting white and peely with the skin kinds of like its shredding.

Need Help the peppermint treatment does help to keep my foot kind of pink but when i stop use it after 3-4 days feet start looking really bad again

Brief Answer:
Fungal Infection of Feet i.e Tinea Pedis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thank you.
I have reviewed the Images. This looks like fungal infections to me Or Tinea Pedis. You may get a KOH scraping from a scale for a confirmatory diagnosis. This should show fungal elements i.e hyphae under a microscope.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest an Oral antifungal e.g tablet terbinafine 250 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
Topically I would suggest terbinafine 1% cream, twice daily, rather than using a moisturizer.
This should get fine within a month of Oral and topical antifungals.

Regards
