default
Posted on Fri, 28 Nov 2014
Question: G/afternoon,
For the past 8 or 9 months I have an elevated mark on my forearm with scales on it
I dont go into the sun. It neither itches nor has it grown in the past 8-9 months. It does not blled or ooze anything.
From what I have seen on the NET it looks to me like it may be Basel Cell?
Can you please help?
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
could be basal cell

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for contacting HCM.

Basal cell cancers often form on the forearms and are raised and scaly. They are usually skin colored and sometimes they bleed. They do not usually hurt or itch. Basal cells are a skin cancer but they are not the dangerous kind that spread and kill you. However, if left on your skin, they can become larger and damage surrounding tissue. It is best to see your doctor and have it removed so that it does not get larger.

Good luck and good health.

Hi Dr,
Thanks for the quick reply.
So from my pic it does appear to be Basal?
Its not Squamous or Melanoma is it?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
yes

Detailed Answer:
That picture definitely looks like it could be a basal cell. There is no way to be certain without a biopsy, but it is best to see a doctor soon.

Hi Dr,
One last question on my dime so to speak.
I have read that melanoma (including all the pics I have seen of it) is generally as a rule dark colored such as in a mole and spreads fairly rapidly.
This hasnt spread at all in 9 months.
Thanks again for your time.

Brief Answer:
you are correct

Detailed Answer:
hello again, You are correct, melanoma is a much more serious skin cancer. It is usually darkly and irregularly colored and irregularly shaped. It tends to grow quickly and metastasize to other locations in the body.
