Brief Answer:
A small part of your right kidney has developed a scar, not serious concern

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. Scar formation is a permanent change in the kidney after healing of an infection or reduced blood supply occurs. Such a change takes place about two to six months after the infection and is a permanent change.

2. In your case it might be a small part of the upper pole in right kidney which has formed a scar tissue. Kidney function is normal that is why your doctor is not worried about this finding.

3. It can also be caused in diabetes and high blood pressure. However for this to be a concern, you should have diabetes for many years and kidney functions might also be abnormal.

3. If your kidney function is normal then this is not a serious problem and you should not worry about it.

4. In many people it can happen after healing of kidney infections like tuberculosis, pyelonephritis among others. If you had an infection involving kidneys months or years back then that might have caused the scarring.

5. As you have diabetes, it is better to get ultrasound scan of kidneys done at least once every year and look for any increase in scarring and abnormal kidney function tests.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
