Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

If you are able to bear weight on that limb then the fracture has healed. The signs of healing is the formation of callus around the fracture site.

The pain and difficulty while walking is due to weaker bones. You need to have a DEXA scan done to find your bone density and Osteoporosis.

Take a diet rich in Calcium and Vitamin D like eggs, cheese, lean meat, chicken, curds, yoghurt, fish oils etc.

If you are having severe pain and not avoid to hear weight on the limb then it may not have healed and needs to be immobilised or operates with implant fixation as soon as possible.

Sclerotic bone may be due to excessive new bone formation causing hypertrophic calcification or Myositis ossificans. This can be caused by excessive immobilisation or massaging.

For an overweight individual it is best to get Intramedullary nail device like Gamma nail. All the normal Surgical instruments will be ok including awl, reamer, long guide wires. No need for any special instrumentation.

The fracture should take about 2 months to heal with the signs of callus formation in about 15 days. You will not be allowed to bear weight till the callus is seen in Xray. It may be about 2 to 3 months when you will be allowed to walk.

The Sclerotic bone can form in weeks to months. Not harmful really but may cause difficulty in movement if confluent.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanking you.

Brief Answer:
May need revision surgery if not healing fracture

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

I have reviewed your MRI and CT Reports.

MRI mentions the presence of an intertrochanteric fracture. I think your Doctor suspected extension of the fracture to cause break of the been of the femur as well, which is not clearly visible on Xray sometimes. Fracture if neck of femur is very serious and needs to be treated immediately. You do not have this fracture which is good news.

The CT Scans show the presence of partially united fracture which isn't getting united soon.

Kindly get a new Xray and show it to me, I may be able to content if you need a revision surgery or we can wait and watch for spontaneous healing.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
