Brief Answer:
Meralgia parasthetica: bit sensitive nerves

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the sensitive skin below buttock on right side.

After reading your query and analysing it with diligence I can make out the possibility of "Meralgia parasthetica". It is a condition where there is bit sensitivity of nerves on the lateral side of thigh can cause mild to moderate pain and sensitivity. A second possibility of shingles can also be made.

I request you to kindly elaborate your concern I terms of:

- Is the skin sensitive all the time or a particular time period.

- What is the grade of sensitivity. Is it mild or moderate or severe.

- Any recent history of surgery or weight loss or any medical or surgical condition.

-Any redness over the affected area.

hope to hear soon from your side.

Hi and thanks for your reply. Sensitivity slight to moderate and there most of the time though it doesn't stop me from sleeping. No surgery or medical condition. No redness.
Interestingly, had a similar condition in February on my left arm which lasted about 2 weeks and then went away. Saw GP about it who said it might be shingles as there are a few cases where no rash appears. So decided to have shingles vaccine just in case (missed the NHS window of age 70 by 1/9/43 by 2 days as birthday on 3 Sept.!! so had it privately at exhorbitant cost!!!)
Hope this helps.

Brief Answer:
Meralgia parasthetica- various majors can be used

Detailed Answer:
Respected Sir,

Welcome back to the forum and thanks for your swift reply along with all the important details.

After analyzing the complete query let me reassure you that your present condition is not shingles. The only possibility which now remains is of Meralgia parasthetica.

As I said that it is due to sensitivity of nerves only and there is no major issue in the causation of the same.

To telly you simply there are cutaneous nerves in the skin interposed in fatty tissues. As there is aging process then the fat part is slowly lost. In my experience at your age it is basically due to the fat loss and friction of nerves by clothing, belts and related items causing friction on the nerves. This causes the sensitivity of nerves which is perceived in the same manner as you have.

In my patients with your kind of problem I suggest them following:

- Proper clothing with lose stretchable clothes.

- Mild Abdominal exercise to strengthen abdominal muscles.

- Proper physiotherapy and interrupt long periods of standing, walking or other aggravating activity.

For the part of treatment : I suggest my patients to apply ice in hot weather and hot compress for cold weather. I suggest my patients to take pain killer tablets for around a week period.

It is a temporary condition and not a permanent issue so do not worry about the same.

Hope these information will relax your mind. I will be glad to answer any further queries or if not then can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
Many thanks. Most helpful. I looked up the condition Meralgia parasthetica on the internet and have one point which I'm not sure if it alters your analysis or not. The condition is described as affecting the outer thigh whereas my irritation is at the back of the leg running from just below the buttocks for about 12 inches. In other words it's along the soft flabbier part of the upper leg just as when I had the same problem on the inside left forearm. Does this alter your diagnosis?

Brief Answer:
All the coditions are due to sensitivity of nerve

Detailed Answer:
Respected Sir,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks a lot for follow up.

You are correct in your reading that Meralgia parasthetica covers the lateral part of thigh. As I told you in previous XXXXXXX that the abnormal sensations are due to sensitivity nerves in the skin. You should also know that these type of sensations are similar clinically in area covered by lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (Meralgia parasthetica) or the area described by you on the posterior region below buttock. For the understandability of the patient we designate these conditions as Meralgia parasthetica like condition.

So you should not get confused with the internet part of knowledge. Additionally if you remember the abnormal similar condition in February on left arm which lasted about 2 weeks was also probably similar to such type of sensitivity.

So the main crux of my suggestion is that your condition is a normal natural condition occurring at this age and there is nothing serious about it.

I Hope these information will relax your mind. I will be glad to answer any further queries or if not then can close the discussion and rate the answer.
