What Causes Sensitivity In Clitoris Post UTI?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: Hi. I initially had a UTI. Took 500 mg of cipro for 3 days, then 250 mg of cipro for 2 days, twice a day and twelve hours apart. I stopped taking the cipro because my toes started to feel a bit numb and tingly. The UTI is gone but my clitoris still feels very sensitive and is red only closest where it attaches to the body. The sensitivity is bothersome all day. It has been this way for about 2 weeks. Other than it being red in a small localized area on the inner most part of the clitoris and being very sensitive nothing else abnormal. I was seen once for the UTI and once after the UTI and I had these symptoms. The doctor had only told me that it just seems irritated. Cause to go in yet again? Or let it continue to heal if that's what its doing? ??

Brief Answer:
It will take a few more days to heal...

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I understand your concern.

A photo of the irritated clitoris is required for a more accurate opinion.

Taking into account that you have been taking cipro which is an antibiotic, I can say as following :
- the use of antibiotics is associated with candida overgrowth
- this is what might have happened in your case giving the symptoms of irritated clitoris

Keep good local hygiene
Wash with warm water and soap
dry well
Applying clotrimazole locally for at least 3 days can also be helpful

It will be subsided in a few days. If not or if it will get worse, then should visit your doctor again for further evaluation.

Looking forward to have the requested photo in.

I understand a photo would be very helpful, but I would rather not post a picture of something so private online. Is it possible, since I took many several days of cipro and receiving tingly toes and parts of my feet that its possible to have affected the clitoris as well? The vagina is not bothersome at all, it's just the innermost part of the clitoris (which is red). Sometimes when I urinate it can burn a small amount. Otherwise the clitoris is sensitive to just about everything. Some days it is worse and others it is better. In the past two weeks it done this. I guess I don't know if I require meds to solve this. You had mentioned clotrimazole. How would that help the clitoris? I look down there every night to see if it has improved, but nothing yet. I even thought that maybe something was caught under the protective layer that covers the clitoris, but I can't see anything.

Brief Answer:
Following answers to your queries...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

1. The redness you note on the innermost part of the clitoris might be partially related to UTI and possible candida overgrowth due to cipro use. This is also explaining why you feel burning sensation too.

2. The increased sensitivity in the clitoris might be partially related to UTI and to candida overgrowth.

3. By using cipro, the UTI will be subsided. While clotrimazole will help with candida overgrowth. Once such infections will be resolved, you won't feel the current problems.

Try to keep the area well clean before applying clotrimazole and after going to bathroom. Make sure to wash the urethra opening first, then, your vagina and then, your anal area after peeing or having a bowel movement.

Everything will be settled once the infections are well treated.

Hope it answered to your queries!
