What Causes Several Episodes Of Concussion And Anger Issues?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: My daughters boyfriend is 32 and has some issues. He tends to get very angry at times and will throw things and break stuff. The anger is not directed at her but almost more at himself and life in general. he can also go days without sleep or eating. As well we know he has had several severe concussions in his life. he has also passed out about 6 times in the last 5-6 months one of them happening during the night and resulted in him being unconscious from the middle of the night till around 4 pm and he may have come to slightly during that time but not fully. What would you think may be causing this? we wonder between bi polar or a physical condition

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.

Passing out is highly unusual and is rarely a psychiatric problem. He should visit a doctor for basic bloodwork, an EKG, and possibly head imaging.

Bipolar is possible but seems unlikely. Going without sleep in bipolar disorder is usually for at least a week, which you did not mention. Perhaps he is using substances, which might also explain the passing out.

He might also have an anger issue which would be improved with psychotherapy.
