What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Bloating After Abdominoplasty?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Apr 2017
Question: I had a tummy tuck October 2016.. I have just within the last week and a half developed abdoninal pain and distinction. I went to ER and they did X-rays and an ultrasound and the doctor said they found nothing but I do have fluid filled loops in my colon that COULD be causing the problem. They told my to try Merilax for three days and wait a week to see if the problem goes away. Could this abdominal pain be related to the tummy tuck??
And also should I wait a week if the pain doesn't go away? 2 questions. Thank you

Brief Answer:
no, it's not likely to be related

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

I don't think this can be related to tummy tuck since this surgery is done only on abdominal wall and we don't enter abdominal cavity so complications are usually related to wound infection or scar issues.

Thsee findings of fluid filled loops are not concerning since it may be sign of some mild constipation which usually doesn't indicate any specific pathology.

If there is no further worsening of the pain, then you can wait, have easier diet and laxatives and see if it will persist in next 1-2 weeks. If there is any associated fever, blood in stool, pain progression or vomiting then you should see your doctor earlier and do a CT scan.

If there is no improvement after 1 week then you should do colonoscopy to rule out some other issues.

Wish you good health. Feel free to ask further.
Regards
