What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Bloating When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis?

Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I have been sick for about 6 weeks and my doctor has done a very good job but I am still very sick. I suffer from diveticuitus so we had a scan done and no signs of it been present at the momement even though I have bad abdominal pain and is bloated. In the scan they noticed multiple cycsts in my kidneys so did a ultra sound and it was ok. I am waiting for a colonoscopy and endoscope, the wait is about 2 months. I have been told to just wait until the tests are done. I am still sick everyday and I am worried they have missed something. These are my symptoms. Sore and bloated stomach
Lightheaded
No energy
No appetite
Kidney stones ( only very small ones but always have them)
Nausea
Tingling in my fingers
And just feel awful

Brief Answer:
Are you still on flagyl?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported and the recent diagnosis of diverticulitis. With no findings on CT scan, your symptoms cannot be entirely explained by that. What immediately comes to mind is the fact that most of these symptoms are typical side effects of flagyl. If you are still on flagyl, I will suggest that the doctor should review this medication and take you off. By the way, there are no more signs of an infection and flagyl should not be continued indefinitely. Also, diet rich in fiber, regular moderate exercise and increased fluid intake will help in the healing of diverticulitis and diverticulosis. Let me hear from you before making final recommendations on the way forward.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
That's reassuring and makes flagyl unlikley!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this precision.

I will say flagyl is out of the picture at this time. .our symptoms would be more of diverticulosis at this time. I will recommend dietary measures. Diet rich in fiber, fruits and vegetables alongside drinking much fluids(plain water). I will also advise that you do regular moderate level of exercise to help improvement movement of the bowels. I will encourage you to institute these and update me on how you are doing.

Until next, I wish you well.
