Question : Hi. I am a 46 year old woman. Four days ago I came down with awful abdominal pain (tender to the touch) and AWFUL pain under my right side rib. I'm usually in good health. I've been in bed for four days.
What could cause this? Any ideas?
This is embarrassing but I'm trying to be honest... I don't drink a lot but last week I did

Brief Answer:
Gallstones can be the reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such pain is quite characteristic for gallstones. Especially if the pain radiates to the back, you have also nausea and lack of appetite.
If you feel also sick, there might be some inflammation in the gallbladder as well.

I suggest you to do not wait with it any longer. Abdominal ultrasound, blood work and liver tests must be done. You may require laparoscopic surgery.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
