What Causes Severe Aching Pain On Legs?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: When I got out of bed yesterday AM my right hip and down the leg started a rather severe aching pain (the pain was not present until I got out of bed and put weight on my legs) that gradually diminished over a two to three hour time frame as I walked carefully. I was afraid of possibly a blood clot? and took a full strength aspirin. Took about an hour of gradually increasing walking exercise for the pain to diminish to tolerable level and another hour or two to be almost completely gone. This morning, in anticipation of a similar experience, I moved more slowly and very gradually increased the vigor of my movements and the pain, although present, was much less severe. Now about 2-3 hours after rising from bed the pain is very slight although still there. I still have not done my regular exercise this morning (2 miles on treadmill in 30 minutes plus some light weights) although I feel OK to try that now. Can you give me some advice?

Brief Answer:
It is most likely muscular pain

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. I think this pain is a muscular pain. Treatment of it is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen/ aspirin for pain. Vitamin B and C is helpful in recovery. I don't think it is due to blood clot however you can get its venogram done to exclude blood clot. You can get x ray of hip to exclude osteoarthritic of hip.
I think you should avoid excercises till pain is relieved completely.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Thanks for your reply.

The pain was completely gone on the second day after first appearing. I went to local clinic and Doctor there could not find any sensitive spots in the area of my hip. The fact that the pain was quite severe yet in two days was gone completely indicate anything other than a muscle strain?

Brief Answer:
As pain reduced completely so nothing is required now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
I am glad to know that your pain has reduced. As your pain was only when you was out of bed and putting weight on limb so it seems musculoskeletal in origin and not due due to blood clot. As pain was only for a very short duration. So I thought it is not arthritis. so I thought it is muscular. Muscular pain can be relieved in 2- 3 days with rest and analgesic quickly. Furthermore muscular pain is commonest cause so I thought your pain to be muscular.
Everything else already discussed.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
