Posted on Mon, 8 Feb 2016
Question: Lower back pain increased over past two days. Excessive gas in stomach after eating and when stomach empty. Lower dull pain right side near groin, feeling of swelling. Have prolapse for twenty years which is manually managed. Have deliberately lost three stones in weight over a year and 6 months.
Question, can losing weight at my age cause digestion problems?

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for submitting your question.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing these troubling symptoms. Regarding the stomach pain and associated gas, this may represent gastritis which may be due to a variety of causes, such as acute infection or H.pylori gastritis. Regarding The pain and sensation of swelling in your lower right quadrant, unfortunately this cannot be definitively evaluated without a physical examination. Weight loss itself generally does not produce the symptoms (congratulations on your weight loss!). Given the presence of 2 issues which may be related to the gastrointestinal system as well as the acute pain, I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with your primary care physician or a gastroenterologist for a full assessment and possible adjunct testing, such as endoscopy.

I hope this will bring you relief from your symptoms soon.

Sincerely,
Dr Galamaga
