Question: I am suffering from cold.
I was feel something in the throat that is causing pain and when I saw it in the mirror with a torch, there are white patches in the Tonsil. I had already taken medicines 1 month back for the infection but it has occurred again. Want your suggestion as to what should be done to cure it.

Brief Answer:
Active inflammation...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Cold, throat pain with white patches on tonsil are suggestive of acute throat infection (acute pharyngitis). Common cause of such infection is flu virus. And being infected once from flu weeks earlier doesn't protect against future infections.

In this context, I feel you should plan a visit to a physician / ENT surgeon for detailed evaluation. Meanwhile, drinking plenty of warm fluids; gargling with warming salt saline fluids. Throat lozenges such as strepsils will ease pain and discomfort.

Recurring throat infection is not uncommon. As I mentioned above one infection doesn't protect you against subsequent infection. However if recurrence is too often, or if tonsils are chronically affected surgical removal is warranted. I will urge you to visit a doctor if symptoms don't settle down with preliminary treatment suggested above.

I hope this answered your question. let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
