Posted on Mon, 21 Aug 2017
Question: I ask for my father. he is 69. Has started with a cough just at night time. he is full of mucas during the night too like he's choking. gp said not nasal drip as too much mucas...i thought the symptoms related to that. he's been for full bloods and ECG. ECG fine but bloods come back end of week. I thought strong antihistermines? any thoughts? He cant sleep with it.

Brief Answer:
please do the following examinations

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in

I can understand your concern

As you explain the history if he were my patient i would recommend him to do some examinations as follows :

Chest X Ray
CRP
Hemogram
Spirometry

I think he should take treatment after having the above results.

I don't think antihistaminics might hlep him in this situation

Please discuss with his doctor and for sure he will order the above examinations.

You can attach me the results and i will help you further.

Detailed Answer:
hi again

Did he performed Spirometry test with bronchodilatators before starting steroids?

Because it might be a COPD with superposed infection too.

However his doctor knows better his actual clinical picture .

Discuss about COPD with him

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Yes it might be.It is not only smoking causing COPD.
However we are discussing theoretically.

Only Spirometry test will show if it is or not.

The fact that he is on steroids shows that his lung function is not normal .

He can do Spirometry after the treatment too.
Or a relatively severe bacterial infection that has decrease lung function might be

However his doctor knows better and i am sure he is doing the best dor him.
