What Causes Severe Diarrhea After Taking Lansoprazole?
Question: i HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH FUNNY TURNS FOR FEW MONTHS AM 51 YEARS OLD. HAD PROBLEMS WITH DIGESTION AND UPSET TUMMYS FOR MONTHS TOO SELF MEDICATED gerd WITH GAVISCON WHEN IT WAS BAD. ABOUT TEN DAYS AGO WENT ON LANSOPRAZOLE WHICH UPSET TUM TOOK IT FEW DAYS THEN STOPPED. GOT THE WORST ACID REFLUX WITH FLUSHING HARDLY ATE FEW DAYS, STARTED LANSOPRAZOLE AGAIN BUT AFTER TAKING IT THIA AM FELT UNWELL. LOOSE STOOLS ETC. tODAY KEEP FEELING IF EAT AS IF HAVE STRANGE BURNING FLUSHING EVERYWHERE THEN MAKES ME FEEL BIT DIZZY! NO OTHER MEDS TAKEN AT MO. AM SUFFERING WITH VERY BAD ANXIETY DUE TO RECURRENT LIGHT HEADEDNESS. HAVE NEVER HAD THESE DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS UNTIL I STARTED TAKING LANSOPRAZOLE

1) Avoid Fizzy drinks, coffee , caffeine, tea. Avoid spicy food, alcohol, and smoking. Eat bland diet, eat diet rich in fibres diet, avoid meat for few days, do not lie down immediately after food, walk for 15 minutes post food. Eat small amount food.
2) Avoid pain killers.
3) Take syrup gaviscon one table spoon theice a day.
4) Eat high fibre diet.
5) I would also suggest similar patient in my clinic to take omeprazole 40mg a day take it for 10 days, before breakfast. You should be fine with above measures.
Lansoprazole is not likely to produce digestive problems. In case if you still have loose motion, you can take probiotic like sporolac or ecobion, also curd will be beneficial.
