Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

I understood your problem and I shall try to address your concerns at best.

One week is not a large time frame and Divalproex sodium can be stopped even suddenly,if it has caused some serious reaction. However,if its not that serious, the medicine can be tapered(two tablets per day for 2-3 days and then 1 tablet per day for another 2 days, and then finally stopped) and then stopped,to be on the safer side.

If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Currently taking 3 tablets 3 times daily. So it is safe to cut back to only 2 tablets 1 time per day? Itching and aggression considered serious symptom?

Brief Answer:
Gradual taper over a few days and then stop.

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

First of all I wonder, that why were you put on such an apparently high dose (I thought it was one tablets thrice a day which seemed reasonable in the first week of therapy) in the initial week of 'Divalproex sodium' treatment.

Anyway, considering the nature of reaction, I suggest its better to make them 2 tablets thrice a day for 3 days, then 1 tablet thrice a day for another 3 days, then 1 tablet twice a day for 3 days and then finally, it can be taken off. However, please consult the treating doctor before making any change in the therapy because he might like to substitute this drug with another one, once it is stopped.

I hope you got the point. If you still have some doubts, I shall be glad to have you in follow-up or else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.
