default
Posted on Tue, 5 Sep 2017
Question: Hi I have been suffering from a headache since Thursday. Since yesterday the headache is just on the right side of my head and my right arm feels weak and my right leg is sore. I also feel nausea at times. I went to my Gp today and he gave me pandadine fort which is hard for me to take as I have a young child. He also mentioned that my blood pressure was 100/60

Brief Answer:
Ibuprofen might be better

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

I am not sure what you mean by panadeine being hard to take...do you mean that you are breastfeeding and are worried it may be passed with the milk...or do you mean that the codeine codeine contained in panadeine might make you sleepy or dizzy?

In any of those cases I would give something else, like over the counter Ibuprofen which can be given whether breastfeeding or not and doesn't typically cause any side effect which can impair your ability to take care of your child.

I wonder also if that is the first time you have had a headache or if you have had other episodes in the past, if you have a prior history some more details on onset, frequency, tests you may have had, medications etc might be useful.

From the current info I would say that there doesn't seem to be a reason for panic. Usually when there are brain lesions the affected limbs are on the opposite side to the headache, so that fact is reassuring that a brain lesion shouldn't be at play. However if symptoms persist even after taking pain killers and you haven't a prior history of recurrent headaches then it would be wise to schedule brain imaging (but again I would try a few days of medication first, only if symptoms persist).

I remain at your disposal for other questions.
