What Causes Severe Headaches?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Feb 2015
Question: I have been getting headaches that wake me from my sleep left side back of head. I had an MRI done was told nothing showed that would cause the headaches. Chronic sinusitis, slight disc bulge at c3&4 mild disc narrowing at c5-6 and c6-7 a benign hemangioma at T1 no significant focal marrow lesion at c5-6 there is a mild broad based central disc osteophyte complex eccentric to the left causing mild left lateral recess narrowing and mild left neural foraminal narrowing. There is no other evidence of cervical HNP, spinal stenosis, or neural foraminal narrowing . All of this is jibberish to me. My headache at times feel as though my head will explode, I vomit. I have had a loud ring in my left ear , the left side of my face has gone numb, my feet and hands have pins and needles and a few times in the same spot where my head hurts it has gone completely numb. Constant muscle spasm in my back and my back will get hot almost like a hot flash that radiates up my spine. This does not all happen at the same time. Oh and a few months ago both of my shins hurt so bad I could hardly walk and it was not from running or excersise it just happened. Am I going crazy or just falling apart? I'm a female, white, 50 years old.

Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis and middle ear problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The findings of your MRI scan are suggestive of spondylottic changes in the cervical spine. These are more prominent at C5-C6 causing mild foraminal narrowing.
The headache associated with numbness and ringing in the ear can happen due to Meniere's disease - a middle ear problem. Do consult an ENT specialist for proper evaluation of sinuses and the middle ear. It can be taken care of with proper treatment.
The back muscle spasms need a hot compress and prescription muscle relaxants. Taking Vitamin B 12 supplements will help in decreasing the tingling and numbness.
I hope this answers your query.
