What Causes Severe Itching All Over My Body?

Question : Just yesterday I started experiencing severe itching all over my body. The itch will start on a random part of my skin/ head and when I scratch, little bumps begin to appear. It goes away after about 10 excruciating minutes. It really scared me yesterday evening when the itch began in my mouth and on my tongue. I then took Benadryl to no avail. The itching kept on. I'm still taking Benadryl but I still experiencing constant itching. I was recently prescribed penicillin for a root canal that was recently done but stopped taking it on Sunday. The itch just started Tuesday (yesterday).
