1. The itching started around 26th January. Peeling, redness and the consecutive symptoms started showing up after a few days.
2. I have noticed some white discharge. But it's common before and after my periods. So, I didn't pay much attention to it as I didn't think it was associated with this condition.
3. I am married. We used KY Jelly for the first time, just before the itching started.I am not sure if that acted as a trigger in any way.
4. I have used a course of Trapic MF, also just before this condition started. Apart from that, I haven't used any medicines recently.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of vaginal candidiasis.

Detailed Answer:

Dear XXXXXXX Hi....
Thanks for your reply, noted its contents.

1. K-Y Jelly. K-Y Jelly is a water-based, water-soluble personal lubricant used as a lubricant for sexual intercourse. Generally, it is safe however in some users it may cause reversible burning sensation, itching, dryness and skin rash when applied. It is unliikely to be assocaited with your persistant symptoms.

2. Trapic MF (Tranexamic acid+Mefenamic acid) is basically used to treat prolonged uterine bleeding during menses. Its common side effects include reversible The side effects nausea, vomiting, gastritis, headache, etc. There are no long-term side effects similar to your present symptoms.

Since you have a white discharge with the associated symptoms of itching, redness, burning sensation and pain I am of the opinion that you seem to be suffering from fungus infection (vaginal candidiasis).

Had you been my patient I would have advised you an over the counter antifungal cream containing Clotrimazole or Miconazole to be used twice daily.

Besides medications you must follow these:
1. Keep the affected area dry and clean.
2. Take bath daily, wash your innerwares in hot water and sun dry.
3. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting pants or skirts.
4. Immediately change out of wet clothes, such as swimsuits or work-out attire.
5. Stay out of hot tubs and very hot baths.

Since it may cause discomfort refrain from sexual activities till you are cured.
Hope the suggestions given above would be useful in getting rid of infection.

Best regards.

Sir,

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply.
I seem to have overlooked one important detail.
I have read that vaginal candidiasis can be caused by high levels of estrogen.
I have been on contraceptives.
So I am guessing that it might be the reason for my condition.
Can you give some suggestions regarding the usage of contraceptives and general preventive measures so that I can take care to prevent this from happening again?

Brief Answer:
Hormonal contraceptives may influence the recurrence of candidiasis.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi....
Thanks for your reply, noted its contents.

1. Yes, the oral contraceptive pills containing high dose of estrogens may influence the recurrence of vaginal candidiasis. But, in general vaginal candidiasis can be caused by other factors such as frequent use of antibiotics, mechanical irritation of vulvovaginal area, inadequate treatment, use of spermicidal jellies and creams increases susceptibility to infection by altering the vaginal flora and increasing the adhesion of Candida organisms.

2. Regarding the general preventive measures, in addition to some of the measures given in previous reply you should avoid using scented tampons or pads, certain soaps, and detergents can irritate your vagina, causing an imbalance in the natural bacteria.

3. Use unscented items and gentle cleansers.

4. Avoid using powders and fragrant sprays in the genital area.

Hope the suggestions given would be useful to you.
Wishing you best of your health.
