Question: Hello doc, i have been having itching sensation in the rectum and anal area for the last few days. It seems to be because of worms. I had a zentel yesterday (400 mg). But i started feeling itch again from this evening so i took another zentel couple of hours back before having dinner. I am still feeling the itch and its very annoying. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
need proper investigations and thorough clinical evaluation..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, Welcome back to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

However, you should note that Albendazole(Zentel) for de-worming, is to be taken as one time only (just stat dose), have you got yourself checked up by any physician before taking this ? If not, I'd strongly suggest to get properly evaluated by either a Gastroenterologist / General Surgeon (whomever is easily accessible for you) in the first place..the anal and peri-anal region needs to be examined thoroughly by the concerned specialist in the first place to look out for any residual fissure and/hemorroids, and/ any skin infection, management will be depending on the findings..there may be requirement of few necessary investigations to be done too (CBC, peripheral blood smear, ESR, FBS, PPBS- 2 hr post prandial etc.)..

Do not take any more Zentel, it's not going to be effective..

Meanwhile try taking Sit'z bath three times daily (sit down in a tub of XXXXXXX warm water for 15-20 min with 2-3 table spoon salt put in to it), it'll provide some symptomatic relief, but for complete resolution, you need to get yourself examined and investigated in the first place as explained..

Maintain good hygiene of the area, try to keep the area dry, wear loose fitting clothing to prevent any residual moisture..do not apply anything until properly examined..

Do let me know how you stay in the due course..

Take Care
Kind Regards
