Brief Answer:
viral infection/seasonal flu

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

It seems that your dad has viral infection more precisely seasonal flu or influenza which can cause common cold like symptoms like watery nasal discharge, along with severe aches and pains in the muscles & joints.
Complete blood count may show low leukocyte counts early in illness and normal or slightly elevated later.
Most commonly, the laboratory diagnosis is established with rapid tests that detect viral antigens by means of immunologic or enzymatic techniques but may not be available with all laboratories.
For uncomplicated influenza in individuals at low risk for complications, symptom-based rather than antiviral therapy may be considered. Acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents can be used for relief of myalgia, and joint pains.
He should rest and maintain hydration during acute illness and to return to full activity only gradually after illness has resolved.

In uncomplicated influenza, the acute illness generally resolves over 2–5 days
