What Causes Severe Joint Pains With Family History Of Rheumatoid Arthritis?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Started this week with fever spiking up to 103.2 , chills but no congestion or cough. Had chest x-Ray and it was clean. All test for flu and UTI came back negative. Severe joint pain started a few days later. First thumbs, toes, ankles. Moved to knees and neck. Can hardly get up without help. Could it be onset of RA or perhaps Lyme disease? I am 66 years old and have a sister with RA. Any opinion at all would be helpful

Brief Answer:
You are likely to be having reactive arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern.
You are likely to be having reactive arthritis. It is arthritic reaction due to any kind of infection such as viral infection. There is pain in most of body joints. In my clinical experience I got very good results of injection triamcilone weekly. Pain subsided in 1-3 weeks in most of cases. Analgesic such as ibuprofen can be use. Vitamin B and C help in recovery.

In my opinion it is unlikely to be early rheumatoid arthritis or Lyme disease.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
