Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: Hello,

I had severe lower abdominal aches with menstrual like cramps one week back. After taking Maftal Spas, it went away. After that, I had lots of discharge for couple of days. For past 3 days, I have been experiencing severe itching in the private parts. The itching is very extreme and is all over the area.
Since last one hour, it is burning very badly. Whenever I am urinating, it is severely burning and is very painful.
I will go see a doctor but as it is night and tomorrow being sunday, I might not get any doctor.
Please can you suggest some medicine which can relief for the time being.
For your information, I am a lactating mother of 1 year old child. So, I will not be able to take all medicines.

Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
It can be due to bacterial vaginosis or due to yeast infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I can understand your concerns.
I have gone through your history and symptoms and in my opinion it can be due to yeast infection or due to bacterial vaginosis.
These measures are helpful in relieving your symptoms.
Keep the area dry and clean but avoid touching and perfumes products.
Maintain vaginal hygiene, wear loose fitting cotton undergarments.
Take healthy and balanced diet, do some yoga and meditation.
You can use 1% hydrocortisone cream and candid cream for local application to reduce itching.
You should use clotrimoxazole vaginal tablet daily for 7 days.
Probiotics are also useful in case of yeast( fungal) infection.
Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more questions.
Good luck.

Thanks doctor for your prompt response.

Just wanted to know is it safe to use candid cream inside the private parts also. as the itching is not only on the surface but also inside.

Brief Answer:
Apply on the surface only.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Sorry for the long delay in my response.
You should not apply inside the private parts as it is used for external purposes only.
In your case hormonal changes are also responsible for itching.
You can use fluconazole tablet 150 mg once weekly to treat fungal ( yeast) infection.
Hope it is useful.
Good luck.

Brief Answer:
It is due to vaginal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Nice to hear from you once again.
I have gone through your doctor's prescription.
She had not written the diagnosis but on examination there is inflammation present in vagina and vulgar.
She also prescribed medication to treat your infection and itching.
So it is most probably bacterial vaginosis along with fungal infection.
Hope it is useful.
