What Causes Severe Nausea Upon Waking Up?

My 17 year old son wakes up most mornings with nausea. It's gotten increasingly worse. Can you help? No idea where to start checking before we head to the Doc.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.
The most common cause of nausea in your son's age is a viral gastrointestinal infection. In general it starts for 1-2 days with vomiting and nausea, and continues with fever and diarrhea for 5-7 days.
During this time it is very important that he drinks plenty of fluids -often but small amounts each time. Oral rehydration salts may help a lot.
When/if he starts with diarrhea, he should take the BRAT diet (banana-rice-apple-toast) and avoid milk, so he will substitute early all the lost electrolytes.
Continue giving the pepto-bismol for nausea and stomach discomfort.
Give him an antiacid in case he has stomach ache.
Probiotics will help later in case diarrhea starts.
Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you have other concerns.
Regards,
