Question : Hi, two months ago I fell on my right buttockswhile drinking, experiencing significant pain and bruising (pic attached). The urgent care clinic said it was a hematoma, but it hasnt gone away and I still am scared I partially tore a muscle. There is a bump to the lower right of my tailbone and it seems like my right buttocks droops slightly more than my left. I also had meniscal knee surgery in March so might still be slightly atrophied from that. I have tried in place lunges and my right buttocks feels like it has 80% strength, weaker than the left and it feels more sore when I'm finished. Never any issues walking, still not running due to surgery. It it possible the bump/bulge at my tailbone is part of a torn muscle?

Brief Answer:
Needs ultrasound scan

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

It just better to get an Xray to look for possible fracture of the bone near the coccyx. This can be a cause of the bump. Also possible is blood collection or haematoma which had organised to form a thick massage. For this an ultrasound will be helpful to confirm.

Keep icing it. Avoid full weight bearing if painful.

Muscle tear also can be looked on an ultrasound scan. So do get Xray and ultrasound done.

I hope I have answered your query.

How important is it for me to get this looked at right away? I have a busy schdule and cant get an orthopedist appointment for a month. Also, i have been bicycling fairly aggressively recently, im not sure if that rules out a muscle tear?

Brief Answer:
Not urgent. Avoid strenuous activity

Detailed Answer:
It's not urgent at all. It's best you avoid excessive and strenuous activity for a while till you get better. Turn to the opposite side while lying on the bed.
