Question: A few months ago, (approximately April 2015) I pulled a muscle in my lower back, left side while working out. I rested for a few days, and resumed my workouts. Although the pain never truly went away, it lessened dramatically. Today, during a workout class, I got such a severe pain in the area that has been hurting that I developed cold chills, nausea and I felt like I could pass out. After several minutes, the sweating, nausea and feeling like I could throw up passed, but the back pain remains.

The back pain restricted to a specific point during workout can be due to a muscle spasm or an acute disc prolapse. This can be properly diagnosed after an MRI scan of the lower back.
Right now you should avoid doing any strenuous back exercises till the pain goes away completely. Take rest and get some muscle relaxants prescribed from your orthopedician. Doing a hot compress in the area will also help.
