What Causes Severe Pain In The Chest And Back, Vomiting And Abdominal Bloating?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: I have been having some kind of stomach problems for the last few years, the attacks are coming more often. I have severe pain in my chest and it works its way around to my back, last for hours. I usually end up throwing up and the pain will ease. I have had them in the last few days and can't throw up or burp to relieve the pressure. My stomach will swell till my back kills me. I have been to several doctors and have had a CT scan to rule out heart problems. I have had a ultrasound of my gallbladder, but my liver was enlarged and my gallbladder did not show up. It doesn't matter what foods I eat, everything affects me. I ate 5 saltine crackers yesterday and I was sick all day.

As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/51 - stomach problems for last few years - more often - severe pain in chest - around to back - lasts for hours - end up throwing up - pain eases - but can not throw up last few days or burp - so no relief - stomach swells up till the back kills you - every food affects - several Doctors - CT scans - ruled out heart problems ultrasound shows enlarged liver - gall bladder did not show up - acid reflux with small hiatus hernia -
With the history you have provided, this looks to be a problem at the lower esophageal sphincter along with gastritis and esophagitis.
Esophagitis and anything related to stomach can cause referred back pain.

I would advise you the following:
Consult your Doctor and discuss about Barium swallow test. This can give you diagnosis related to lower esophageal pathology.
Repeat upper GI Endoscopy.

Take a PPI like Omeprazole.
Motility regulator like Domperidone.
Antacid when on empty stomach.
Further management as per the reports of Barium swallow, upper GI Endoscopy and other tests as may be advised by your Doctor.

I hope this answer will help you for better diagnosis.
