default
Posted on Sat, 12 Mar 2016
Question: I have been getting a pain on my right side right under my rib cage. Almost feels like something is poking from the inside out. Feels like a pin prick. It's been off and on for about a month. What is in that area that could cause that? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Right upper quadrant pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Cholecystitis, GERD/Gastritis, pleurisy can present with pain right upper quadrant. However, a cardiac cause should be ruled out, first. An EKG can be done, initially. Ultrasound abdomen and chest would be required to look for possible gall stones or any abnormality with regards to the pleura and diaphragmatic movements. If these investigations are normal then GERD/Dyspepsia is the likely culprit. PPIs like pantoprazole and pro kinetics such as itopride can be prescribed, accordingly for empiric treatment to see for improvement.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
