Question : I went to the Dr 2 days ago with swollen glands and a very soore/swollen throat congestion in one nostril and clogged ears. Strep culture was negative. The only thing the dr. Said was that it was a viral thing and to take 800mg of ibprufen. The swelling has gone down a little but my throat is still very sore, I have a very runny nose and get blood mixed with dark gunk when I blow it. I have terribly headaches and periodic blurred vision. My throat hurts bad enough to when it's choking me..
Brief Answer:
May have developed a super added bacterial infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
It is likely that you have developed a secondary bacterial infection following a viral infection.
It may be evident if you do a blood count. If it shows a high neutrophil count, it is indicative of a bacterial infection and you would require an antibiotic.
