Question : I HAVE HAD A DRY AND RED THROAT FOR ABOUT 1-1/2 WEEKS. WITH THIS I HAVE HAD A FEELING THAT SOMETHING WAS STUCK IN MY THROAT WHICH I WOULD ALWAYS TRY TO CLEAR. I DO NOT HAVE A COUGH OF ANY SORT NOR DO I HAVE ANY SWOLLEN LYMPH GLANDS IN MY NECK. THE FEELING OF SOMETHING IN MY THROAT SEEMS TO HAVE GONE AWAY, BUT KNOW I AM HAVING PAIN IN MY CHEST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BREAST BONE. I AM ALSO NOW HAVING A SHARP PAIN ALONG MY SPINE IN THE SAME AREA AS THE CHEST ONLY WHEN I SWALLOW CERTAIN FOODS. I AM ALSO HAVING BACK DISCOMFORT IN MID BACK RANGE. ANY IDEAS.

I read your question and i understand your concern. Dry and red sore throat with feeling of something stuck in the throat with constant urge to clear the throat with history of epigastric pain and association with food intake is very classic presentation of GERD also called acid reflux.

All you need is modify diet and lifestyle, lose weight if obese, reduce dairy,processed, spicy and fatty meals. Eat small frequent meals. Avoid sweets especially chocolate etc. Avoid lying down after meals for at least 3 hours. Keep the head side of the bed elevated for at least 8 inches to get the acid flow against gravity.

Do some garlic water mouth rinses for the throat comfort and take some antacids like pepto and some proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole / nexum etc for the pain relief.
