Question : after sitting for a period of time just recently when I rise I have a sharp shooting pain starting at the back of my buttucks shooting down the back of my leg. What could cause this.

SI joint pain can cause sciatic pain. Physiotherapy will be helpful in these cases. It can cause buttock pain all the way down to the leg. To alleviate the pain you can take analgesic like advil, aleve or motrin and muscle relaxant after consulting your doctor.
